SELECTED PROJECT
TRIONE WINERY
Building a Legacy
CHALLENGE To design and build a winery
facility including a tasting room that would be a showcase for the
Trione brand and that would exceed the quality that is synonymous
with the Trione name.
SOLUTION The
Fifth Resource Group developed
plans that called for a complete renovation
of the stone building, with barrel storage
and open-top fermenters on the first floor
and a private event room on the second floor.
The tasting room and cinderblock buildings
were both torn down, and replaced with a
new tasting room and production facility
in separate buildings just north of the winery.
The three buildings are tied together with
large decks that overlook hundreds of acres
of Alexander Valley vineyards. They also
began retrofitting the two-story Nervo building,
with its steep roof and distinctive hop tower.
The first story of the building contains
eight 10,000-gallon redwood wine storage
tanks, while the second story is empty. The
structure is framed with massive old-growth
redwood timbers.
RESULTS The
much anticipated new Trione Winery opened
for the 2007 crush and it’s tasting room
completed in 2008 with great fanfare and
outstanding reviews. “This building has so
much potential, so much history,” Mark Trione
said during a tour. The winery has become
a universal success, producing 10,000 cases
of premium wine . The tasting room is host
to cult wine fanatics all over the world
that appreciate the relaxed natural setting
and beautifully restored stone buildings
of a past era.
