SELECTED PROJECT
SEGHESIO WINERY
Saving $$ by Design
CHALLENGE Develop an overall plan identifying the most cost effective
solution for Seghesio Winery to meet its production goals for
the next decade.
SOLUTION The plan developed by The
Fifth Resource Group recommended
restoring the Old Winery Building into a
barrel cellar, with tasting room and offices.
The existing building resembled a large old
agricultural storage type building. The
Fifth Resource Group designed a more modern looking
winery building typical of Sonoma County and kept the roof from
the original building.
RESULTS The new design resulted in a cost effective solution that provides Seghesio Winery with the facilities
it will need to meet its production goals for
the next decade while also reducing its
operating expenses by bringing the barrel
storage onsite instead of continuing the
expense of a leased barrel facility plus
transportation costs. Sustainable “Green”
Design elements used include: Bringing barrel
storage onsite to reduce environmental impacts
from trucking; super insulated shell; night
air cooling; and photovoltaic solar to generate
power onsite.
