KORBEL
Delicatessen and Market

The current Korbel Tasting Room is a focal part of landmark champagne cellars established in 1882. Nestled in the a redwood grove the brick structure with a red corrugated metal roof has been modified twice in the past. In the summer of 1995 Korbel wished to add a Deli to this tasting room building and upgrade the restroom areas to meet the current ADA requirements.

Located adjacent to the existing tasting room and contiguous to the Korbel picnic area the new Deli structure is tied to the tasting room by a small courtyard. Brick archways create this pleasant entry court to the Deli. The materials for the Deli structure are "used brick" and glass, with a red corrugated metal roof to match the existing structure. Raised concrete decks form the outdoor eating area as they wrap around the Deli and existing tasting room building. The used brick came from the Point St. George Fishery Building (Santa Rosa, Ca) and is of the same vintage as the brick used on the original tasting room. The subtle brick coursing detail and grout coloring, as well as the brick arch details of the existing building is repeated in the new deli structure.

Attention to detail, materials, and massing enable the new structure to blend into the context of this historic site.
